The nights were the worst — lying in bed, skin burning with an itch that felt like it came from deep within. Sleep was a luxury. My skin cracked and bled, every movement a reminder of the battle I was fighting.

Eczema wasn’t just on my skin; it followed me everywhere. It decided what I wore, how I moved, and how I saw myself. As a child, I couldn’t understand why my body felt like the enemy.

My family and I searched the world for answers — traveling to India, trying ancient remedies and homeopathy. Nothing worked. The pain stayed.

But through it all, I kept going. Slowly, the flare-ups faded, the nights got easier, and my skin began to heal.

Eczema tried to break me — but I’m still here. And that’s enough.

Whether you’re at the start of your eczema journey or deep in the middle of it, here are some tips and lessons that helped me find light through the hardest nights:

1. Create a Nighttime Ritual

Night was always the hardest. A calming routine helped signal my body it was time to rest. For me, that meant:

  • A lukewarm bath (not hot!)

  • Gentle moisturizer right after

  • Soft, breathable cotton sheets and pajamas

2. Track Your Triggers

Everyone’s skin is different. What flares mine might not flare yours. Keep a simple journal to log:

  • Foods eaten

  • Stress levels

  • Skincare products used

  • Weather/Season Changes

Patterns will slowly start to emerge.

3. Say No to Shame

Eczema affects how you feel about yourself — and I’ve been there. But covering up doesn’t make it go away. Surround yourself with people who see you, not just your skin. You deserve kindness — especially from yourself.

4. Advocate for Yourself

Doctors mean well, but not every treatment works for everyone. Speak up. Ask questions. It’s okay to say, “This isn’t working for me.” You’re not difficult — you’re taking care of your body.

5. You Are Not Alone

One of the hardest parts of eczema is how isolating it feels. But there are thousands of us out here who get it. That’s why I started LivingWithEczema — to create a space where we can share stories, tips, and support each other through it all.
