Programs:
The Sunscreen Alarm
DermaTeens believes sunscreen should be worn daily to prevent skin cancer and damage. Many people want to wear sunscreen every day but have a hard time being held accountable.
This new program aims to address these concerns. A notification system reminding you to apply sunscreen in the morning and reapply as the day goes on, The Sunscreen Alarm is the perfect addition to your routine.

Starting at 7 am EST, every day, The Sunscreen Alarm will send you a text, Remind, and/or email notification reminding you to apply sunscreen. After that, the alarm will remind you at noon and in the afternoon. This alarm will function 7 days a week under the Eastern Standard Time Zone (EST) all throughout the year.

So far, this notification system has reached over 1,000 people, helping them live life with healthy skin.

Rays of Protection
Everyone deserves the right to skin cancer prevention resources. DermaTeens has raised over $1,500 earlier on this to create sun protection kits with mini sunscreens, sunglasses, water bottles, melanoma identification cards, and snacks to send to Atlanta Mission Homeless Shelters. We have been able to send over 8,000 sunscreen and hygiene items. We hope to increase this impact. With Sun Smart Youth (@sun_smart_youth), we are collecting sunscreen and toiletries across Atlanta, GA and Orlando, FL through Rays of Protection, a joint program, to provide access to sun protection to homeless shelters and foster care homes across the NE. Check out our IG pages (@dermateens and @sun_smart_youth) to see if there is a donation site near you! In case you would like to bring this initiative to your area, reach out to us in our DMs!
Skin Cancer Prevention Outreach for Youth Workshops
Skin cancer is the most preventable type of cancer, yet it remains as the most common form of cancer in the United States. This is in large part due to a lack of awareness and education about the cause. That's why DermaTeens is hosting both in-person and virtual skin cancer outreach events directed at youths.
So far, DermaTeens Executive Director Ellis Schroeder created a presentation on skin cancer prevention and awareness for Skin Cancer Awareness Month on behalf of DermaTeens. He was able to reach multiple science classes at his school, and now, this is becoming a stationary DermaTeens initiative.

There was a virtual outreach workshop, with over 50 sign-ups and around 15 attendees, where DermaTeens educated participants on skin cancer prevention and awareness and attendees played Kahoot. Congratulations to Jasmine Biju on winning the Kahoot and the $25 Amazon gift card.

Stay tuned for our next workshop!
